We report the technical jury’s verdict with the results of the competition, scroll for gallery:

The jury, appointed by the SpeleoFotoContest Association in the persons of Natalino Russo (president), Fabrizio Ardito, Giovanna Giuliani, Francesco Maurano, Keith Partridge, and Alessio Romeo, after carefully viewing the photographs previously selected by the Association, awarded the following prizes, divided into categories:

ARTIFICIAL
Marek Csukás, Czech Republic, with the photo “77m”. For the composition and sense of verticality that the author managed to convey in a well-studied and illuminated shot.

BIOLOGY
Christian Roustan, France, with the photo “With hairy legs”, for the excellent management of light and for the delicacy with which the author portrayed the relationship between cave and bat, between the mineral world and the animal world.

CAVE DIVING
Frank Aron, Germany, with the photo “Machine Hall”, for the spectacular environment and the skill with which the author portrayed it, conveying the atmosphere and giving a good idea of the space and silence that pervade the flooded environments of a former mine.

FREE SHOT
Viktor Lyagushkin, Georgia, with the photo “The last supper”, for the ironic approach that well conveys the convivial atmosphere and warmth of group caving.

MACRO
Ágnes Berentés, Hungary, with the photo “Colorful bacteria”, for the use of the macro shooting technique with which she documented the interaction between bacteria and mineralization.

MOVIE TITLE
Cristian Tzecu & Cosmin Nistor, Romania, with the photo “Natural Born Killers”, for the creativity and ironic and playful approach that led to a fun and original shot.

SSI OBIETTIVO AMBIENTE AWARD
(In collaboration with the Italian Speleological Society)
Christian Roustan, France, with the photo “With hairy legs”, for the sense of fragility conveyed by a work that highlights the intimate and delicate bond between the cave environment and the life within it.

SENTRY BEST PHOTO SFC23 AWARD
Cristian Tzecu & Cosmin Nistor, Romania, with the photo “Selfie”, for the strongly caving and dynamic character of the shot, created with skillful use of light that gives a good perception of space, depth, and the cave environment. In addition, the different color temperatures in the lighting and the choice to include the photographer’s shadow in the frame add dynamism to the scene.

SENTRY WEB AWARD
Milen Markov, Bulgaria, with the photo “Cave Duhlata”.

SENTRY POPULAR VOTE AWARD
Frank Aron, Germany, with the photo “Machine Hall”.

THE JURY
In general, all the images submitted are of a good standard, with a creative approach that goes beyond mere application of technique. The presence, in many cases, of a project and a working method, as well as the development of a personal language, including a good dose of irony, was particularly appreciated.
The jury congratulates all the participants in this edition of the prize and invites the SpeleoFotoContest cultural association to continue with this interesting initiative, which, by stimulating the evolution of photographic language, contributes, also at an international level, to the diffusion and communication of exploration, and at the same time to greater awareness on the part of speleologists.

La giuria, nominata dall’Associazione SpeleoFotoContest nelle persone di Natalino Russo (presidente), Fabrizio Ardito, Giovanna Giuliani, Francesco Maurano, Keith Partridge e Alessio Romeo, dopo aver attentamente visionato le fotografie precedentemente selezionate dall’Associazione, ha assegnato i seguenti premi, suddivisi in categorie:

Marek Csukás, Repubblica Ceca, con la foto “77m”. Per la composizione e il senso di verticalità che l’autore è riuscito a restituire in uno scatto ben studiato e illuminato.

BIOLOGY
Christian Roustan, Francia, con la foto “With hairy legs”, per l’ottima gestione della luce e per la delicatezza con cui l’autore ha saputo ritrarre il rapporto tra grotta e pipistrello, tra mondo
minerale e mondo animale.

CAVE DIVING
Frank Aron, Germania, con la foto “Machine Hall”, per la spettacolarità dell’ambiente e la maestria con
cui l’autore ha saputo ritrarlo, riportandone l’atmosfera e rendendo bene l’idea dello spazio
e del silenzio che pervadono gli ambienti allagati di una ex miniera.

FREE SHOT
Viktor Lyagushkin, Georgia, con la foto “The last supper”, per l’approccio ironico che ben rende l’atmosfera conviviale e il calore della speleologia di gruppo.

MACRO
Ágnes Berentés, Ungheria, con la foto “Colorful bacteria”, per l’uso della tecnica di ripresa macro con
cui ha documentato l’interazione tra batteri e mineralizzazione.

PREMIO SSI OBIETTIVO AMBIENTE

Cristian Tzecu & Cosmin Nistor, Romania, con la foto “Selfie”, per il carattere fortemente speleologico e al tempo stesso dinamico dello scatto, realizzato con sapiente utilizzo della luce che rende una buona percezione dello spazio, della profondità e dell’ambiente di grotta. Inoltre, le diverse temperature colore nell’illuminazione e la scelta di includere nell’inquadratura l’ombra del fotografo aggiungono dinamismo alla scena.

LA GIURIA
In generale tutte le immagini pervenute risultano di buon livello, con un approccio creativo che esula dalla mera applicazione della tecnica. Particolarmente apprezzata la presenza, in molti casi, di un progetto e di un metodo di lavoro, oltre allo sviluppo di un linguaggio personale, anche con una buona dose di ironia.
La giuria si congratula con tutti i partecipanti a questa edizione del premio e invita l’Associazione culturale SpeleoFotoContest a proseguire con questa interessante iniziativa, che stimolando l’evoluzione del linguaggio fotografico contribuisce, anche a livello internazionale, alla diffusione e comunicazione dell’esplorazione, e al tempo stesso a una maggior consapevolezza da parte degli speleologi.

IL COMITATO ORGANIZZATORE SFC
Il CO di SpeleoFotoContest vuole ringraziare il Presidente Natalino Russo e tutti i componenti della giuria per il giudizio accurato che hanno prodotto e per l’impegno ed il fondamentale aiuto che è stato dato per la buona riuscita della competizione. Un grazie di cuore ovviamente anche a tutti gli autori che hanno partecipato, senza la loro abilità e creatività questo concorso non sarebbe ovviamente stato possibile ma soprattutto il pubblico non avrebbe potuto ammirare tante meraviglie del sottosuolo.

L’appuntamento è per la prossima edizione del Premio Sentinella SFC25…
