We continue to discover the photos that won the Sentry Award and their authors: in the free shot category, “The Last Supper” by Viktor Lyagunkin from Georgia.

Optimistic (Optimistichna) Cave Dinner in the underground base camp Mayaka. There were about 30 members in the expedition, dedicated to the explortion of the newly discovered underwater continuation. Only 3 divers were to dive others were needed to provide support and helped to bring the equimpent to the place.

National Geographic photographer, Nikon Ambassador, Subal Pro Team member, and head of PHOTOTEAM.PRO, Viktor Lyagunkin, has left a significant mark in the world of photography and adventure. Born in Moscow to a military family, Viktor spent his childhood and school years in Czechoslovakia. However, the call of his hometown was too strong, and after school, Viktor returned to Moscow to pursue his passion. He earned a degree from the St. Petersburg Academy of Theater Arts as a set designer, which provided him with a solid artistic background that is reflected in his photographs.

Viktor’s career began in the world of magazines, where he worked as a layout designer and art director. However, it was in 1998 that Viktor made the leap into the world of professional photography. His ability to capture extraordinary images earned him international attention, leading him to become a winner of significant photography competitions.

In 2003, fate played a crucial role when he took hold of an underwater camera. This marked the beginning of a new adventure for him, as underwater photography became his main hobby and favorite passion. The depths revealed a new world of wonder and beauty that Viktor masterfully captured through his photographs.

In addition to being a talented photographer, Viktor is also a successful author. Among his books, we mention “Orda Cave. Awareness Project”, “Being a Dolphin”, and “100 Facts about Dolphins”. He has also received the prestigious National Underwater World Award, which testifies to his significant contribution to the world of underwater exploration.

Viktor’s solo exhibitions have traveled around the world, with great success in both the public and critical reception. His photographs convey a sense of wonder and mystery, inviting viewers to explore unknown worlds and see the hidden beauty of our planet.

But Viktor is not just an exceptional photographer. He is also the main organizer, idea generator, and energy behind PHOTOTEAM.PRO, a team of photography professionals who work together to create extraordinary projects. His contagious passion and dedication to the art make him a prominent figure in the international photography community.

For his work, he has received numerous accolades, and during the latest edition of SpeleoFotoContest, he was awarded the Sentinel prize in the free shot category. His photo entitled “The Last Supper,” taken in the Optimistic Cave, the longest cave in Eurasia and the largest gypsum cave in the world (290km), impressed the jury with its ironic approach that captures and conveys the convivial and warm atmosphere of caving and group exploration.

Cena al campo base Mayaka nella Grotta Optimistic (Optimistichna). Nella spedizione, organizzata per l’esplorazione della nuova continuazione subacquea appena scoperta, c’erano circa 30 membri. Solo 3 subacquei si sarebbero tuffati, gli altri erano necessari per fornire supporto e aiutare a portare l’attrezzatura sul posto.

Fotografo del National Geographic, Ambasciatore Nikon, membro del Subal Pro Team e capo del PHOTOTEAM.PRO, Viktor Lyagunkin, ha lasciato un’impronta significativa nel mondo della fotografia e dell’avventura.

Nato a Mosca all’interno di una famiglia di militari, Viktor ha trascorso la sua infanzia e il periodo scolastico in Cecoslovacchia. Tuttavia, il richiamo della sua città natale era troppo forte e, dopo la scuola, Viktor è tornato a Mosca per perseguire la sua passione. Ha conseguito la laurea all’Accademia Teatrale di San Pietroburgo come artista-decoratore, che gli ha fornito un solido background artistico che si riflette nelle sue fotografie.
